GROWING THE GIFTS — The Mount Calvary Foundation

We are all in the gift-giving business through our Mount Calvary Foundation! From its beginnings in 1989, the Foundation has developed a fund to give gifts to special projects and ministries that are not part of our general operating budget. Our Foundation extends the reach of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, Minnesota, and gives our members and friends opportunities to give legacy gifts. Every Mount Calvary member is a member of the Foundation!

THE GIFTS WE BRING

The Foundation receives gifts in three ways: memorial gifts, direct gifts such as cash and stock gifts, and bequests through estate giving. Gifts to the Foundation continue in perpetuity and only the interest on principal is used to make grants. As the principal grows, the amount given away will grow as well. The Foundation principal has surpassed $800,000 and we are on track to reaching $1 million in assets with continued generous giving.

IMPACT AT HOME AND AROUND THE WORLD

The Foundation’s gifts help fund projects at our church and community, and also are helping people around the world achieve unexpected results. Gifts that originate here in Excelsior, Minnesota can have wide impact!

Since 1989, the foundation has gifted over $300,000 in grant awards. Grants are made to three focus areas:

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church for programs not funded in the operating budget
Community Organizations
International Projects

Grants are often accompanied by members’ matching gifts and volunteer service.

TO MAKE A GIFT

You can make a gift at any time and as often as you wish. Some church members give on a regular basis each year. Some plan to give through a will or life insurance. Many gifts are received in honor of or memory of loved ones or in thanksgiving for special occasions. The Foundation’s endowment income is used for special projects which are beyond the scope of the operating budget of the church

Give a Gift

Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The Federal Tax ID for the Foundation is 41-1652585.

Estate Planning

Some plan to give as part of their estate or life insurance plans. A codicil may added to an already completed will at a very minimal cost.

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

REQUESTING A GRANT

Anyone may submit a request for funding. Copies of the grant request form are available online on this the Home Page of this site. Online copies are also available; see links below:

Paper forms are available in the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church office.

Please submit completed forms to Foundation@MountCalvary.org or return to the church office.

Please allow at least 45 days for processing a request. The board meets most months on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Submitting your request at least one week prior to the board meeting is the best way to insure a timely review.
