Wednesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm Pizza, Art, Games, and Faith Conversations.
“The Vine” is a place built for and led by youth. Come high school youth who have a close relationship to Christ, and those who don’t. Whether you know Scripture well, are curious about faith, or are skeptical of God altogether, come and let your questions be heard. Each week expect fun crafts to try, and games to play. There is always enough pizza to go around. We will sing campfire songs and address topics both big and small about what grace is, who is God, and why would one live a life in Christ.
Adventures, Immersions, and Service.
One of the greatest gifts we have is to learn and grow. Each summer we turn to experiences to strengthen our faith foundations. A pastor could tell you about the wonder of God’s creation, but camping under the Milky Way, seeing a mountaintop view, or hearing loons cry over a still, evening lake is worth a lifetime of words. A teacher could teach about a foreign culture, the difficulties of poverty, or the pain of discrimination, but hearing someone’s story from their own lips is worth a thousand statistics. The news can tell us of the difficulties of rebuilding after disaster, but a day in the hot sun with dirt on your brow, creates compassion, even the best newscasters can never even begin to portray.
Field trips, Bible Studies, Volunteer Opportunities, Game Nights, and More.
It is not the scripture or tradition that sustain a faith community, but the people. We understand that all too well. Intimidated to walk into a room full of “Church People”? Consider joining us for fun events like laser tag, Valley Fair trips, game nights, or bowling parties! (And bring a friend, too!) None of that your speed, but you’ve looking for a place to grow your understanding of Jesus? Jump into one of our high-school Bible studies! We approach them with a Lutheran perspective, but there is no wrong way to hear the word of God, so come regardless of your faith background. Been meaning to find a way to give back to the community? Join us for our food-packing nights, or maybe make some tie blankets while watching a movie, every pair of hands matters? No matter what you’re looking for, Mount Calvary strives to make a place where you can belong.
Why should I come to a Mount Calvary Lutheran Church high-school event? There is no one too cool or not cool enough, no person is too crazy or too boring, and nobody is too tall, short, big, small, loud, quiet, black or white, queer or straight, no one too rigid, relaxed, smart, lazy, depressed, anxious, talented or lame to need someone who cares about them. The Vine community is one that stands first and foremost on the principles that we are all wonderful, flawed, quirky, and yes sometimes gassy and strange people. Each made in the image of God, and very good. So why not come and find a place to call home, and a enter a community ready to welcome you just as you are, and welcome you with open arms.
